La Madonna del Puleggio is a small ruined chapel which is located in “Ventomare” district along an old road (the royal road) which went up from the Ionian coast through the towns of Pisticci and  Montalbano until the town of  Matera.

The chapel name is also the oldest name of the district;  its perfect east-west orientation, with the entrance facing east, the presence of the semi-circular apse and the construction technique suggests that the structure is of Byzantine origin.
